A great success in its first year!

Gable Events was booked by Action for Children to run a charity treasure hunt event in Brighton town centre for 12 teams made up from corporate supporters of the charity, both old and new, and groups of friends. As a result, more than £3,000 was raised for Action for Children and it was a great opportunity for the charity to gain some new supporters and to publicise the other fundraising events that they run.

Gable Events Treasure Hunt Service

Gable Events originally suggested a number of their most popular fundraising events to Action for Children and a treasure hunt was chosen as being a low cost, low risk event option, with significant fundraising potential and a perfect event for Brighton with its large corporate client base and a superb city to explore. Gable Events event manager carried out a pre-event site visit to prepare the Brighton treasure hunt and met with Action for Children’s fundraiser at Bar 106 (the treasure hunt’s proposed start and finish point) to discuss how the event would run, any themes that she wished to incorporate and opportunities for maximizing fundraising. The treasure hunt team packs were customised with Action for Children fundraising information to further promote the charity’s work.

How the Teams were Recruited

The Action for Children Fundraising Co-ordinator put an advert in the local newspaper advertising the charity treasure hunt and asking for teams to sign up. She also attended networking breakfasts and meetings in order to raise awareness of the treasure hunt event and their work in the area. She was able to recruit four of her twelve teams from the networking events as it was sold as a team building event offering great value for money for smaller local companies. She also contacted existing supporters and companies that had chosen Action for Children as their ‘Charity of the Year’.

How the Funds were Raised

Action for Children charged £5 per team member and an additional £30 per person minimum sponsorship. The £5 entry fee included their entry fee and two drinks from the bar (beer, wine or soft drink). The bar agreed to allow Action for Children to hold the event free of charge as it was an early evening event on a Friday and sales for the bar were guaranteed with many of the treasure hunt teams staying on to have drinks after the event.

“The treasure hunt was perfect as a corporate social networking event with the added philanthropic element of fundraising for Action for Children. We estimate that we will have raised £3,000 sponsorship (gross) with additional spin-offs including new supporters to the charity and interest from several teams in other events we run.”
